Swa Bhoomi Campaign

2014

November 2013 to March 2014, “Swa Bhoomi Campaign” supported by OXFAM, India was undertaken by 13 NGO’s in 15 Talukas and 75 Villages; In 13 Districts. It was aimed at:

1. Spreading awareness among women for the importance of joint ownership of land along with men.
2. Motivating women, especially single women, to get their pending mutation entries done.
3. Creating awareness among men and women for daughters to retain their right to inherited land.
4. Advocating for change in law for matrimonial property ownership; putting barriers to daughter’s signing off their claims and holding women centric varsai camps.

Launch of “Swa Bhoomi Kendra” - Centre for Legal literacy and access to productive resources

2014

Launch of “Swa Bhoomi Kendra” - Centre for Legal literacy and access to productive resources in January. It is supported by UNDP and undertaken by 12 NGO’s in 12 Districts and 15 Talukas. These resource centers have Para Legal Workers already trained or being trained under the project to provide free legal services to the marginalized women to file petitions/claims for titles as well as information on government schemes on access to land by marginalized.
